206 pages

About the Book:

A killer on the loose. A K-9 keeping watch. Police constable Izzy Tremblay knows her father’s death was no accident, so when she finally discovers a lead and is immediately attacked, her suspicions are confirmed. The ambush leaves her in the hospital with three hours of crucial memory missing, which she knows hold the key to finding her father’s murderer. For protection, she takes refuge with her ex-partner, Austin Murray, on his K-9 ranch while she races to uncover the truth. But with danger still lurking, can they stay alive long enough to take down a killer?

My Rating & Thoughts:

I am not a big dog person but I really enjoyed the dogs in this story and how they worked with and protected the humans. Izzy's father's death has been ruled a heart attack, but Izzy is sure it was murder. Can she find proof that supports her theory? This was a quick fast paced story with lots of tense moments. A page turner that kept me invested. While I suspected a couple characters I did not have it figured out. Conversations about faith and trusting God is talked about quite a bit between the main characters. There is also a romance that happens but it didn't overshadow the main storyline.

Anne of Green Gables by LM Montgomery

Genre: Classic
Released: 1908
364 pages
About the Book:

As soon as Anne Shirley arrived at the snug, white farmhouse called Green Gables, she knew she wanted to stay forever...but would the Cuthberts send her back to the orphanage? Anne knows she's not what they expected—a skinny girl with decidedly red hair and a temper to match. If only she could convince them to let her stay, she'd try very hard not to keep rushing headlong into scrapes or blurt out the very first thing she had to say. Anne was not like anybody else, everyone at Green Gables agreed; she was special—a girl with an enormous imagination. This orphan girl dreamed of the day when she could call herself Anne of Green Gables.

My Rating & Thoughts:

This was my 2nd time reading the book and while Montgomery has amazing descriptions and writing style as I've visited PEI (and Green Gables itself) since I first read it, I was able to picture the setting so much more this time around. Anne has been through so much when we first meet her as a orphan, and yet she tries to find the beauty in life and lets her imagination carry her away. Sometimes this causes her trouble, but majority of time it helps her. We follow her working hard in school to go on to college, making friends, the trouble she gets into at times, she forgives some and holds a grudge against one. There are some great moments and one really hard moment that made me cry. Each character was unique and I loved so many of them. There are so many great moments and quotes in this book. I can't wait to spend more time in Avonlea with Anne and the rest of these characters.

Sins of the Past Novella Collection - Dee Henderson, Dani Pettrey, Lynette Eason

Genre: Romantic Suspense
Publisher: Bethany House
Released: May 3, 2016
380 pages
About the Book:

Three Novellas from Bestselling Authors
In Dee Henderson's "Missing," a Wyoming sheriff is called to Chicago when his elderly mother goes missing. Paired with a savvy Chicago cop, the two realize her disappearance is no accident, and a race against the clock begins.

Dani Pettrey returns to Alaska with "Shadowed," introducing readers to the parents of her beloved McKenna clan. Adventure, romance, and danger collide when a young fisherman nets the body of an open-water swimming competitor who may actually be a possible Russian defector.

Lynette Eason's "Blackout" delivers the story of a woman once implicated in a robbery gone wrong. The loot has never been found--but her memory of that night has always been unreliable. Can she remember enough to find her way to safety when the true culprit comes after her?

My Rating & Thoughts:

Missing by Dee Henderson - I very quickly got invested wondering what happened to John's mother. I enjoyed how Sharon respected his training and his ability to separate his emotions in the moment to allow him to work with her while she was leading the search. I was frustrated with the mother near the end, but I understood her actions as things began to wrap up at the end. I enjoyed the interactions between Sharon and John.

Shadowed by Dani Pettrey - I wasn't a fan of this one. I am not a fan of Russian bad guys in books, so the storyline turned me off. I did like the characters of Ben and Libby and how honest they were with each other from their first meeting, but the romance was too instant for me.

Blackout by Lynette Eason - my favourite of the collection. I got invested in the happenings very quickly and wondered how the past connected to the current events. I did guess who the villain was, but I couldn't figure out their motive until it was explained. I liked that Chad and Macey were friends before the story began, so the development to more didn't feel rushed.

291 pages
About the Book:

London, November 1941. Her relationship with boyfriend Charles is blossoming, while Emmy’s best friend Bunty, still reeling from the very worst of the Blitz, is bravely looking to the future. Together, the friends are determined to Make a Go of It.

When the Ministry of Information calls on Britain’s women’s magazines to help recruit female workers to the war effort, Emmy is thrilled to step up and help. But when she and Bunty meet a young mother who shows them the very real challenges that women war workers face, Emmy must confront a dilemma between doing her duty and standing by her friends.

My Rating & Thoughts:

It was so fun to reconnect with Emmy. She has learned from mistakes make in the previous book and continues to work for the magazine Women's Friend. The press has been asked to help promote women works for the war efforts. We follow Emmy learning about the struggles that women working in factories are facing and her efforts to help. Meanwhile we see her relationship with her boyfriend blossom and the struggles that comes with having a relationship during war times. I enjoyed my time with these characters. I was invested in the story and felt frustrated alongside them at certain moments. The situations they are facing due to the war are hard, but this was a lighthearted read and there were some moments that made me laugh and showed the importance of having friends/family around you. Little Ruby was a cute addition. I look forward to spending more time with these characters.
