Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

Genre: Classic
Released: 1951
158 pages
About the Book:

Guy Montag is a fireman. His job is to destroy the most illegal of commodities, the printed book, along with the houses in which they are hidden. Montag never questions the destruction and ruin his actions produce, returning each day to his bland life and wife, Mildred, who spends all day with her television “family.” But when he meets an eccentric young neighbor, Clarisse, who introduces him to a past where people didn’t live in fear and to a present where one sees the world through the ideas in books instead of the mindless chatter of television, Montag begins to question everything he has ever known.

My Rating & Thoughts:

I am so glad I read this book with two other ladies as this allowed me to discuss what I was reading and helped me understand more of what was being described. I struggled at first understanding what was going on, but as the story progressed, I was able to follow more. I was surprised at the number of references to the Bible included. There was a strong philosophical message throughout. I enjoyed seeing Montag discover himself and learn to be an individual who thinks for himself rather than just conform with society. The ending was a bit abrupt and didn't make sense to me. Warning there is quite a bit of language included.

(I purchased my copy of this book; opinions expressed
in this review are my honest opinion and completely my own.)
