Jane Reviews: Crumpets and Cowpies by Shanna Hatfield

Series: Baker City Brides # 1
Genre: Historical Romance
Released: January 15, 2015
354 pages
About the Book:

Detestable! Arrogant! Insufferable!

He'd been called worse...
Rancher Thane Jordan reluctantly travels to England to settle his brother’s estate only to find he’s inherited much more than he could possibly have imagined.

Lady Jemma Bryan has no desire to spend a single minute in Thane Jordan’s intolerable presence much less live under the same roof with the handsome, arrogant American. Forced to choose between poverty or marriage to the man, she travels across an ocean and America to build a future on his ranch in Oregon.

My Rating & Thoughts:    🌟 🌟 🌟 ðŸŒŸ    (4 stars)

This story features two people, from two different parts of the world with two very different lifestyles but they come together in order to look after their niece and nephew after they have lost both of their parents. We have a bachelor who swore he would never marry, a lady who is use to the finer things, along with the always energetic 3 year old Lily, the solemn 10 year old Jack and life on a ranch with no indoor plumbing challenges and conflict are bound to arise. Thane and Jemma agree to wed in name only for the sake of the children and travel to Thane’s ranch in Oregon. The banter between these two with their personality conflicts and at times their purposeful teasing made the story entertaining. Along with the wonderful secondary characters who each added to Thane and Jemma’s lives and gave me the feeling of being surrounded by friends.

Even though Thane gives off the appearance of a big tough guy, he is really sweet and caring at heart, I came to really liked him. The children were adorable, especially Lily. She brought out the soft side inside of not only Thane but also the ranch hands. I really enjoyed seeing how this marriage of convenience turned into a real marriage.

When the book finished I was so glad I did not have to say goodbye to these new friends as it was immediately on to book number 2 for me.
