My Rating & Thoughts:

Fun story with two young people thinking they are helping with a matchmaking scheme for two elderly folks, and the elderly folks thinking they are helping set up the two young people. I enjoyed seeing Piper's dedication to feed store and her heart for animals. The proposal was entertaining you knew what he was trying to say, but he kept flubbing it up and kept coming out wrong. It was so fun to spend more time with Carson, Fynlee, Matilda and Ruth from the prior books. This was a fun quick read.

Summer Bride by Shanna Hatfield

Series: Holiday Brides #2
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Wholesome Hearts
Released: July 12, 2018
211 pages
About the Book:

Two octogenarians won’t stop until they make a match. . .Sage Presley loves her job as the receptionist at Golden Skies Retirement Village in Holiday, Oregon. She enjoys the residents and their wisdom, even if some of them are more than a little quirky. Determined to ignore the matchmaking efforts of two women at the retirement home, Sage’s sole focus is on raising her brother, Shane. In spite of her best efforts, she can’t help but notice the hunky electrician who continually comes to her rescue.

Grateful for the opportunity to open his own electrical business, Justin James moves to Holiday full of plans and dreams. He’s quickly drawn in by the close-knit community, but finds the lack of suitable single women disturbing. Despite himself, his attention is captured by the receptionist at the retirement home where he’s working on a big job. Yet, he can’t begin to understand why two matchmaking octogenarians are intent on forcing him together with the woman he’s convinced is married.

My Rating & Thoughts:

The senior matchmakers are back at it, this time they are trying to get the home's receptionist and electrician together. Sage is raising younger brother and feels no guy will want to be saddled with that responsibility so she shy's away from dating. Justin trying to keep his distance thinking Sage is taken. I loved how Justin treated Shane (Sage's brother). I do wish we had seen more of the romance relationship happen but it was a lot of tell. However the this was an fun story with characters I wanted to root for. It was fun to catch up with Fynlee, Carson, Ruth and Matilda again, but I do wish the elderly matchmakers played a bigger role.

They find themselves in the midst of a plot by two scheming old women determined to make them fall in love.

My Rating & Thoughts:

Second time reading, this time I was listened to the audiobook and I loved the narrator. There are so many laugh out loud moments throughout thanks for the grandma and aunt. The scheme to get their their granddaughter and nephew together. I enjoyed the interaction of Carson and Fynlee, but I didn't like that Carson was seeing someone at the beginning and wish he would have broke it off much sooner. This was a fun entertaining read.

Original Review from February 2017: Filled with many laugh out loud moments thanks to a couple very entertaining elderly ladies. They conspire to get Fynlee and Carson together, but Carson’s ex-girlfriend and misunderstandings create roadblocks, but thanks to their antics their final conspiracy leads to happy resolutions. I laughed so much through this. The elderly ladies made the book, but Carson & Fynlee draw you in making you care about them too. Ms. Hatfield weaves a entertaining story.

Heart of Clay by Shanna Hatfield

Series: The Women of Tenacity #1
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Wholesome Hearts
Released: June 18, 2011
331 pages
About the Book:

Callan Matthews awakens one day to the realization her husband has taken a nose dive off the pedestal where he’s resided since the moment they met. As Clay unwittingly tugs at the last few threads keeping her from completely unraveling, she has to choose between walking away or running back into his arms.

Easygoing cowboy Clay Matthews works hard and plays even harder. He’s the last person to wade into emotional turmoil, but he’s up to his neck in it trying to decipher his wife’s suddenly frosty feelings toward him.

When tragedy strikes and a life-altering secret is revealed, this tender, sometimes humorous sweet romance embraces the beauty of letting go of the past and daring to fall in love all over again.

My Rating & Thoughts:

This story follows a married couple who are 13 years into the marriage. The early days of wedded bliss are over and are struggling with feelings of bitterness towards one another. We learn that secrets have been kept by one to the other. In addition to following the current day ups and downs of the marriage there are flashback scenes that show us them first falling in love. There was one scene that scared me for a certain character but thankfully what I thought had happened didn't. I loved Clay, he had such a good heart and was trying to do the best he knew how. I found Callen harder to connect with and was frustrated with her at times. When the secret was revealed I was shocked that it wasn't shared years ago so much heartache could have been dealt with earlier. The makeover scene was pretty funny. I enjoyed that this featured a married couple and dealt with their struggles in addition to their joys.
