About the Book:

With a hit out on his life and corruption inside the Atlanta police department, Michael finds himself hunted by both the cartel and the law. His only hope is the daughter of the man who wants him dead.

My Rating & Thoughts:    ⭐⭐

I went into this book wanting to know about Michael and what was going on. The beginning was great, it felt like I was watching a tv crime show playout and I was on the edge of my seat. I liked how Ivan and his sister Olivia risked themselves to save a guy they didn't know. They are now running for their lives but the bad guys always seem to be able to track them. we are dealing with the cartel and corrupt police officers, who can they really trust? I really liked Ivan, but sometimes it felt like he was younger than 19 and I questioned his ability to know what he did due to his hearing disability. There is a lot of action happening throughout that kept me invested, but there were a few times where it seemed to jump and it ruined a bit of the flow. I did not care for the romance between the characters at all. Emotions are running really high and they both have so much that should be dealt deal before they can really explore their feelings, but they are already talking long term. I enjoyed seeing characters from the previous books and enjoyed seeing the family reunited.

Review: Fatal Exchange by Lisa Harris

Series: Southern Crimes #2
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Publisher: Revell
Released: April 29, 2014
322 pages
About the Book:

Emily Hunt might come from a family of cops, but she never goes looking for an adrenaline rush. She lives the quiet–well, relatively quiet–life of a teacher and thrives on making a difference in the lives of her students. But she’ll have to draw on a well of strength and savvy she didn’t know she had as student Rafael Cerda takes her class hostage for ransom money to save his brother’s life.

Undercover cop Mason Taylor has been working with Rafael to find his brother and bring the cartel thugs who hold him to justice. Can he talk Rafael down from his impulsive actions? And is there something more sinister at work here than he realizes?

My Rating & Thoughts:    ⭐⭐

I could not put this book down once I started. A high school classroom is taken hostage and the police need to figure out how to resolve the situation quickly and safely. What has sparked these events? This book picks up about 4 months after book one, the two main pov's are different from book one but the include the same main family and work team. I loved the continuation of the characters. Majority of the story takes place in one day but it believable. I gasped and was shocked quite a few times at various twists that happened. I feel like we really got to know these characters fairly well and what motivates them and I enjoyed seeing them bond. There was a lot of depth to the story. Book ends with a cliffhanger and I must pick up book three immediately to find out what is going to happen next. Plus I am not ready to say goodbye to these characters.

Review: Dangerous Passage by Lisa Harris

Series: Southern Crimes #1
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Publisher: Revell
Released: September 1, 2013
322 pages
About the Book:

When two Jane Does are killed on the outskirts of Atlanta, Georgia, detective and behavioral specialist Avery North discovers they share something in common--a tattoo of a magnolia on their shoulders. Suspecting a serial killer, Avery joins forces with medical examiner Jackson Bryant to solve the crimes and prevent another murder. But it doesn't take long for them to realize that there is much more to the case than meets the eye. As they venture deep into a sinister world of human trafficking, Avery and Jackson are taken to the very edge of their abilities--and their hearts.

My Rating & Thoughts:

I was intrigued from the moment the book started. The case had me wondering what was happening and I wanted to see where the relationship of the two main characters was going to go. As we got further into the case and I discovered more of what was going on I felt fear for the girls in this situation and hoped the police would be able to stop those responsible. I liked watching the interaction of Avery and Jackson develop and was rooting for this relationship. I feel like they balanced each other well and due to their professions were able to understand the pressures each other dealt with. There was one particular scene that made me an emotional mess. I enjoyed the faith discussions between characters, lots of discussions about the God and evil happening in the world. "Even though life is tough - sometimes dark and horrible - that doesn't change who God is. He is still in control." At times I did find it hard to believe that Avery was a seasoned detective with the way she reacted to some situations. The main case does wrap up in this book, but there is another case going on that is not resolved and I need to continue the series to get some answers.
