First Line Fridays (Week 44): Beneath the Surface

Happy Friday!

Welcome to First Line Friday's hosted by Hoarding Books.

Today's book is: Beneath the Surface by Lynn H. Blackburn

Beneath the Surface
First (two) lines:
"Homicide investigator Ryan Parker flashed a thumbs-up to his dive buddy
and fellow homicide investigator, Gabe Chavez. Gabe responded in kind
and they began a slow descent to the bottom of Lake Porter."

I had seen this book around quite a bit in the last month and I was in the mood for a suspense book so I decided to pick it up. I do not regret it. I became so engrosed in the story that I did not want to put it down. I hope to reunite with these characters again in a future book. I am still working on writing my review but will have it up in the next week.

Now it's your turn!
Let me know your first line in the comments and then head over
to Hoarding Books to see who else is participating!

  1. This was a great read (hard to put down once I started). Now I'm anxiously awaiting book two. Loved that we got to meet the entire gang in this first book.

I'm currently reading Finding Evergreen by Jennifer Rodewald. Here is the first line from that book:

Brandi's head throbbed. The hateful words still sizzled in her ears as the front door brushed open.

  3. Sea of Stars by Amy B. Bartol

    Prologue:

    "War

In the dark spaces of every residence of the Alameeda Brotherhood, the ghostly half-light of holographic projectors simultaneously flickers on."

This is book is about another realm and a prophecy concerning a kingdom. It is smart, witty, and full of action.

  4. I cannot wait to begin this book! It's almost up on my review list.

    Happy Friday!

Today at my blog, I am sharing the first lines from Jennifer Delamere's latest novel, The Heart's Appeal. It's such a great book!

Here I will share the first lines from my next-up book, Finding Evergreen by Jennifer Rodewald. This is my first read of this author's works, but I am very excited!!!

    "July
Brandi's head throbbed. The hateful words still sizzled in her ears as the front door brushed open. Ethan stepped over the threshold."

  5. I haven't tried this author yet - I'm slowly working on my ability to read suspense without becoming a stress-ball! ;)
Though I’m sharing a book with an Irish hero, The Promise of Breeze Hill by Pam Hillman, on my blog today, here’s the first line of an audiobook I’ve borrowed from the library on a friend’s recommendation, The Bookshop on the Corner (or, in the UK, The Little Shop of Happily Ever After) by Jenny Colgan:

“The problem with good things that happen is that very often they disguise themselves as awful things.”

    Happy Friday!

  6. Oooooo, suspense!

Ty Remington blamed the homemade orange marmalade cake for why he found himself huddled under an overhang off some faraway path in Glacier National Park, shivering, praying he might live through the night.
Storm Front by Susan May Warren

  7. On my blog, I'm sharing the first line from a book I'm currently reading, Praying For Strangers, by River Jordan. Here, I'll share the first line of the chapter I'm currently on. "We've spent the night at the ski resort catching up and sharing belated Christmas presents." Have a great weekend!
