Rocky Road by Becky Wade

Series: Sons of Scandal #2
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Released: February 14, 2024
394 pages

About the Book:

FBI Agent Jude Camden handles every aspect of his job with by-the-book professionalism. There's no reason why his latest assignment—which calls for him to pose as the boyfriend of perfumer Gemma Clare—should be any different.

Except Gemma is different. She's creative, bold, and feisty. And as soon as she meets Jude, she wants to loosen him up, wrinkle his perfect shirts, and test every ounce of his towering self-control.

The FBI has an iron-clad rule against romances between those working together on operations. Jude's never met a rule he didn't respect. But adhering to this one is going to be tough because, as time goes by, he finds Gemma more and more irresistible.

Buckle up! It's going to be a rocky road.

My Rating & Thoughts:

The beginning was hilarious, I loved how Gemma and Jude first meet. I found myself very quickly caring about each of them and enjoying their interactions. I was intrigued in the mystery Gemma is trying to solve for her great-grandmother. Each time the perspective switched to Fiona I was annoyed, I did not care about her and just wanted more of Gemma and Jude. Despite not being captivated by the reason for Gemma and Jude's interaction, I kept reading because of the characters and their dynamic. Their contrasting qualities complemented each other well, and the discussions of faith between them felt natural. I really enjoyed spending time with these two characters and watching the relationship develop. Overall, I found this book more enjoyable than book one.

Memory Lane by Becky Wade (Review)

Series: Sons of Scandal #1
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Indie Published
Released: February 14, 2023
426 pages

About the Book:

After surviving a trauma several years back, Remy Reed relocated to a cottage on one of Maine’s most remote islands. She’s arranged her life just the way she wants it, spending her time working on her wood sculptures and soaking in the beauty of nature. It’s quiet and solitary—until the day she spots something bobbing in the ocean.

Her binoculars reveal the “something” to be a man, and he’s struggling to keep his head above water. She races out to save him and brings him into her home. He’s injured, which doesn’t detract from his handsomeness nor make him any easier to bear. He acts like a duke who’s misplaced his dukedom...expensive tastes, lazy charm, bossy ideas.

Remy would love nothing more than to return him to his people, but he has no recollection of his life prior to the moment she rescued him. Though she’s not interested in relationships other than the safe ones she’s already established, she begins to realize that he’s coming to depend on her.

Who is he? What happened that landed him in the Atlantic Ocean? And why is she drawn to him more and more as time goes by?

There’s no way to discover those answers except to walk beside him down memory lane.

My Rating & Thoughts:

I liked the mystery aspect of trying to figure out who the guy was, what happened to him, and the events from the past. This story had much more mystery than I was expecting. It also had mentions some heavy topics such as discussion of a past rape, suicide/murder, and infidelity. I did not particularly enjoy how Jonah and Remy treated each other most of the time, I found it hard to root for a relationship between them. The way Jonah first describes Remy bothered me. There were scenes that inserted that involved only the side characters that were unnecessary and me out of the Jonah and Remy story. I did like how we see Remy open herself up and Jonah come to the realization about his past lifestyle. I am intrigued to see what happens with Jude in the next book so I will continue the series at some point.

Turn to Me by Becky Wade (Review)

Series: Misty River #3
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Bethany House
Released: May 3, 2022
410 pages

About the Book:

His promise will cost him far more than he imagined.

Guilt has defined Luke Dempsey's life, but it was self-destructiveness that landed him in prison. When his friend and fellow inmate lay dying shortly before Luke's release, the older man revealed he left a string of clues for his daughter, Finley, that will lead her to the treasure he's hidden. Worried that she won't be the only one pursuing the treasure, he gains Luke's promise to protect her until the end of her search.

Spunky and idealistic, Finley Sutherland is the owner of an animal rescue center and a defender of lost causes. She accepts Luke's help on the treasure hunt while secretly planning to help him in return--by coaxing him to embrace the forgiveness he's long denied himself.

As they draw closer to the final clue, their reasons for resisting each other begin to crumble, and Luke realizes his promise will push him to the limit in more ways than one. He'll do his best to shield Finley from unseen threats, but who's going to shield him from losing his heart?

My Rating & Thoughts:

I enjoyed getting to know Luke and Finlay through this story and their interactions were entertaining and sweet. I enjoyed how Finlay looked past Luke's ex-con status and his keeping people at arm's length and tried her best to befriend him and show him the benefit of letting people in. Luke has survivor's guilt after his brother passed away in the earthquake when they were young and has carried this burden for years. He has made some bad choices but is now trying to stick with a promise he made to Finlay's father without his heart getting involved. I was very interested to know more about Finlay's father and the treasure hunt he has set up for her. I liked following Luke and Finlay while they tried to piece the clues together. I loved seeing Ben again and the rest of the Miracle Five but I do wish we had been given more of Ben's story. I enjoyed the time spent with him and would have loved more. The banter he had with a particular female was really entertaining. The thing I did not enjoy about the story was that Finlay decided to pursue Luke for a dating relationship even after they talked about faith and knew he was not a Christian and she was. Luke does decide to return to his faith by the end, and we witness him making this decision. There was a fun mix of characters throughout the story and I enjoyed getting to know the new characters. The ending provided nice closer for characters we have followed throughout the series.

Review: You and Me by Becky Wade

Series: Misty River Romance #2.5
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Released: November 23, 2021
125 pages

About the Book:

Easy-going, artistic Connor Bryant fell hard for his friend Shay Seaver when they were both in the seventh grade. Now, sixteen years later, he's returned to Misty River. She's finally between boyfriends. And his crush on her hasn't wavered. Now's his chance.

He tells Shay that he's found someone he wants to date and is in need of a makeover when it comes to his appearance and dating strategies. He asks if she'll serve as his consultant—in hopes that he'll learn how he can become her ideal man. What he doesn't tell her? That she's the one he wants to date.

Sporty stationery shop owner Shay immediately agrees to Connor's request because he's one of the best guys she knows. However, she quickly realizes she's in over her head. She's pledged to help him win the affection of another woman—even though she dearly wants to claim his heart.

My Rating & Thoughts:

I enjoyed this sweet read. I loved the concept of the dating coach and wondered how long it would take Shay to realize how great Conner was and how she really felt. While I was rooting for the relationship I did really like the scenes between Shay and her assistant Gage as well.

Review: Let It Be Me by Becky Wade

Series: Misty River Romance #2
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Bethany House
Released: May 4, 2021
378 pages

About the Book:

The one woman he wants is the one he cannot have.

Former foster kid Sebastian Grant has leveraged his intelligence and hard work to become a pediatric heart surgeon. But not even his career success can erase the void he's tried so hard to fill. Then he meets high school math teacher Leah Montgomery and his fast-spinning world comes to a sudden stop. He falls hard, only to make a devastating discovery—Leah is the woman his best friend set his heart on months before.

Leah's a math prodigy who's only ever had one big dream—to earn her PhD. Raising her little brother put that dream on hold. Now that her brother will soon be college bound, she's not going to let anything stand in her way. Especially romance . . . which is far less dependable than algebra.

When Leah receives surprising results from the DNA test she submitted to a genealogy site, she solicits Sebastian's help. Together, they comb through hospital records to uncover the secrets of her history. The more powerfully they're drawn to each other, the more strongly Sebastian must resist, and the more Leah must admit that some things in life—like love—can't be explained with numbers.

My Rating & Thoughts:

I went into this book with trepidation because I had heard it had a love triangle, but I was presently surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. Yes, there were two guys who liked the same girl but due to their friendship they didn't let their feelings affect their relationship with each other. One backed off as soon as he realized they liked the same girl. When the other guy realizes that the girl likes his friend he puts his feelings aside and encourages his friend. Loved this.

I loved Leah from when we first met her, and as I got to know her more I became invested in her mystery. I found myself frustrated with her mom quite a bit. And was shocked with who was responsible for what happened and why, but it did feel a but convoluted.

I enjoyed watching the romance build and how the guy was persistent for a date. I did not like the way he reacted at one particular scene, but he was easy to root for.

My only negative is just like the previous book there is one scene inserted just for the purpose of introducing a character for book three but it has no relevance or impact on this story. I don't feel like it was needed because this character has been mentioned a few times without this scene. Overall, I enjoyed this book more than book one and am looking forward to completing the series.
