First Line Friday (Week 63): A Promise Forged

Happy Friday!

Welcome to First Line Friday's hosted by Hoarding Books.

Today's book is: A Promise Forged by Cara Putman

A Promise Forged
First Line:
May 1943
"The taxi rolled to a stop and Kat Miller wanted to pinch herself,
make sure she really sat outside the Chicago landmark. Wrigley Field."

I have only just discovered Cara Putman's writing within the last couple years and have only read her books that fall in the romantic suspense genre.  (Which is my top genre choice.) Over the past year I have found myself enjoying historical romances so I decided I would pick this one up. I am still in the early stages right now, but I will share my thoughts once I finish.

Now it's your turn!
Let me know your first line in the comments and then head over
to Hoarding Books to see who else is participating!

  1. Today I shared the first couple of lines from Fiona Davis' upcoming book "The Masterpiece" on my blog. But as I'm only about 25% into the book, let me share the first few lines of the chapter I'm currently reading.

Clara had seen Levon only twice since he'd taken her class five days earlier: once in a crowded hallway, where he'd given her a salute as he brushed by, and another time on the concourse of the terminal, where she was certain he'd spotted her but pretended not to.
His puerile behavior annoyed her. She had no way of knowing if he'd upheld his end of the bet and insisted that Mr. Lorette keep her on."

I hope you enjoy that. Happy weekend and enjoying your reading! :D

  2. Happy Friday! My first line is from Dancing in the Rain by Eileen Rife and Jennifer Slattery:

"The letter was probably one more rejection Loni could add to all the others crumpled in her trash."

  3. I am beginning A Promise Forged this weekend. Here's the first line from a book on my TBR shelf, Justice Buried by Patricia Bradley -- It wasn't too hot for 10:00 P.M. in the middle of May unless you were about to climb over the ledge of a fourteen-story building in downtown Memphis.

    Happy Friday!

  4. Happy Friday! Over on my blog, I'm sharing the first line from The Reckoning at Gossamer Pond by Jaime Jo Wright. Here I'll share the first line from Chapter 28 of the same book:
"Dusk had settled over Gossamer Pond. The mist rolled off its surface, making the mossy green algae glow in the moonlight."
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  5. Happy Friday!

Today on my blog, I'm sharing the first line from Cara Putman's novel A Promise Forged too. Great minds! Here I will share the first line from the novel I just started reading, Thief of Corinth by Tessa Afshar.

"The first time I climbed through a window and crept about secretly through a house, the moon sat high in the sky and I was running away from home."

Hope you have a great weekend! 😀

I'll be reading this book soon, too. Hope you enjoy it!

I’m reading The Hero's Guide to Being an Outlaw by Christopher Healy right now, so here’s the first line: “Outlaws have too many feathers in their hats.”

  7. My first line is from Jen Turano’s Caught by Surprise
The first inkling Miss Temperance Flowerdew had that her rather mundane day was about to turn anything but mundane happened when a closed carriage trundled up beside her, keeping pace when her every step as she walked down the sidewall adjacent to Broadway.

  8. Happy Friday! On my blog, I'm sharing the first line from Secrets & Charades by Cindy Ervin Huff. Since I'm still reading the book, I will share the first two lines from chapter 8 here. "Jake finished hitching the wagon as the sun rose over the horizon. When he peered in the door of the soddie, Evangeline stood before him trying to press the wrinkles out of her green dess with her hands." I wish you a wonderful weekend.

  9. My First line is from The Best of Intentions by Susan Anne Mason:

    May 1919
Grace Abernathy stood at the rail of the S S Olympic, staring out over the calm expanse of the sea as the last trace of sunlight disappeared over the horizon.

  10. Happy Friday! I'm sharing from a different book on my blog today, but my current lunchtime read is the second Lady Alkmene Cozy Mystery, Diamonds of Death by Vivian Conroy. Here are the first lines:

"It was madness to do this on a night with a full moon. But then you had to be a little mad to do this work to begin with."

  11. The book I shared on my blog today is A Rumored Fortune by Joanna Davidson Politano but it's also the book I'm currently reading so I'll share the first line from chapter 3 here: "Squinting into the fog made orange by the rising sun, I strode through the sprawling vineyard in a nightdress and my tattered old garden cloak and pondered the odd whispers of my servant." Hope you have a great weekend with lots of reading time! :)
