The Heart Between Us by Lindsay Harrel

About the Book:
Megan Jacobs always wished for a different heart. Her entire childhood was spent in and out of hospitals, sitting on the sidelines while her twin sister Crystal played all the sports, got all the guys, and had all the fun. But even a heart transplant three years ago wasn’t enough to propel Megan’s life forward. She’s still working as a library aide in her small Minnesota hometown and living with her parents, dreaming of the adventure she plans to take “once she’s well enough.” Meanwhile, her sister is a successful architect with a handsome husband and the perfect life—or so Megan thinks.

When her heart donor’s parents give Megan their teenage daughter’s journal—complete with an unfulfilled bucket list—Megan connects with the girl she meets between the pages and is inspired to venture out and check off each item. Caleb—a friend from her years in and out of the hospital—reenters her life and pushes her to find the courage to take the leap and begin her journey. She’s thrown for a loop when Crystal offers to join her for reasons of her own, but she welcomes the company and the opportunity to mend their tenuous relationship.

As Megan and Crystal check items off the bucket list, Megan fights the fears that have been instilled in her after a lifetime of illness. She must choose between safety and adventure and learn to embrace the heart she’s been given so that she can finally share it with the people she loves most.

My Rating & Thoughts:    🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 ðŸŒŸ    (5 stars)

Do you want to see the world without leaving the comforts of home? If so this book is for you! Throw in two estranged sisters finding peace and some romance with two hunky men, could it get any better?

Megan and Crystal once were really close but Megan’s heart condition and years of sickness have affected them each differently and ended up tearing them apart. Megan has a received a heart transplant but still feels stuck in her life. After meeting her heart donor’s parents she makes the decision to complete her donor’s bucket list. This starts her journey of self discovery, learning to overcome her fears. Crystal is also feeling stuck, with encouragement from her husband she decides to join Megan on her travel adventure. This starts out awkward as the two sisters haven’t spoken much since their falling out years ago but their adventure forces both to face their fears and tackle feelings that are holding them back from true fulfillment. This adventure helps them rediscover their faith, restore their relationship and find true happiness. Their journey of discovery may start oversees but continues once they return home.

I connected with both sisters in different ways and even though we don’t get inside the guys heads I loved them. Caleb truly understood Megan in a way that few could and I loved the way he encouraged and forced Megan to confront her fears. I could feel Crystal’s husband’s pain at times, it took courage on his part to do the things he did to try to help Crystal. The two last scenes between each sister and their romantic interest had my heart swelling, I absolutely loved the end.

This story touched me in ways that I never imagined. It has made me think about what motivates me and what may be holding me back from doing certain things. I am still thinking about it days after finishing. In addition all the travel and sights mentioned ignited my desire to travel more (not that I needed much help 😉 ).
