First Line Friday - Week 5

Happy Friday! Rachel Hauck is just one of my many favourite authors and I can't wait to read her newest book 'The Writing Desk' releasing July 11th. Until then we revisit one of her previous books.

Today's book is: The Wedding Shop by Rachel Hauck

April 1930
Heart's Bend, Tennessee
"The morning began like every other weekday, with Cora making her way up the back walk to the shop, unlocking the door, and clicking on the lights."

This book gives us two stories interweaved in one, one set in the 1930's and the second in the present. It's loved how Ms. Hauck made the stories flow together so well. To read my full review click here.

  1. Turtle Springs, Kansas
    April 1866

Pa had some kind of nerve, up and dying like that-just when I'd gotten used to Frank being gone. Adjusting her somber bonnet, Caroline Kane exited what was now her inn, onto the boardwalk and then stepped down to the hard-packed dirt street.

First line from Dime Novel Suitor by Carrie Fancett Pagels. This is my "debut" as a character in the story.

  2. LOVE, LOVE Rachel's books!!!
Happy Friday! My first line is from Widow by Denise Weimer: "Oglethorpe County, Georgia, June 1857, An angel of light stood before me, blonde, beautiful, one hand behind his back."

  3. That was a good book!
    My first line is:
The promised view of the mountain peak waited, cloaked in mist like a tissue-wrapped gift not ready to be unveiled.
“The Road to Paradise” by Karen Barnett
    Have a good weekend!

    1. I keep hearing about this book, I am going to have to check it out!

  4. The line I'm sharing here is a book my 9 year old just finished and enjoyed:
"A bright bolt of lightning splits the dark and flickers over the skylight."
Frank Einstein and the Antimatter Motor - by: Jon Scieszka

  5. Happy Friday!

    My first line is :
“The first inkling that something was wrong was the waking in the darkness to find the cat pawing at my face.” ~ The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware.
I’ve heard great things about this book. I am really looking to reading this mystery/thriller.

  6. Love, love, love Rachel Hauck's books! Here's one from another of my favorite authors Becky Wade in her novella Then Came You: "Sylvie left me today."

    1. Becky is another great author. I could never choose just one favourite.

  7. Loved this book, and the cover is gorgeous! Happy Weekend!

  8. This book is on my to-buy list, and I love the title of the second book! Happy Sunday!
