In this Gold Country Cowboys story, farrier Ella Cahill is accused of murder—and only former marine Owen Thorn, her brother’s best friend, can help clear her name. My Rating & Thoughts:    🌟 🌟 🌟    (3 stars)

The danger that begins at the beginning of the book carries all the way through with quite a few incidents happening that put Ella and Owen in peril numerous times. I don’t know how they had the energy to continue on the way they did after their close calls. Ella is being framed for murder but with the help of Owen and his family they set out to catch the person responsible. However he seems to always been one step ahead of them, will they be able to find the proof they need to keep Ella out of jail? It was easy to cheer for Owen & Ella, Owen is a marine who has earned a purple heart and is home recovering from his injuries. Ella is a sweetheart who gave up her dreams to care for her sister. The way she treats Betsy is so sweet, you can’t help but smile when they interact.

Some of the happenings did not seem realistic. The things the villain got away with and was able to do felt a bit farfetched at times. The way Owen & Ella escaped danger or continued on after also feel a little unbelievable, too much seem to happen in too short of a time. I just finished reading this last night and now I can’t even remember what happened with the villain at the end.

However I loved the relationship story. Owen and Ella have grown up together and know each other well, but when feelings develop into more are they willing to risk their friendship? I enjoyed the way they came to realize that their feelings went deeper than they realized and I sighed each time one of them acted on these feelings.

I also really enjoyed the spiritual message of the story. The characters have to learn to trust that God will carry them through this challenging time and also realize that His plans for their lives may not be what they dreamed, but can be better than they imagined.
